There's a film for that.

No Impact Man

No Impact Man, a film to nurture your awareness.

Move over, Great Wall of China! Global consumerism has entered the arena. The largest man-made structure in the world, to be seen from Space, is officially awarded to the Fresh Kills landfill in New York.  So tighten the ropes of your black garbage bags, you may. News flash: there is no such thing as trash removal. The rank diapers, Kellogg’s cereal boxes and moldy refrigerators are going nowhere… except somewhere else. That somewhere else is a trash dump. You wouldn’t know it unless you volunteered to go see it yourself though, because photographers are banned. Tweets and Facebook photos of the phenomenon confiscated and cause for arrest by the federal government, a case of threatening homeland security. All in effort to protect (or is it hide?) these thousands of acres of land designated to allow modern consumerism to thrive like a bacterial disease. However, an easier way to accomplish that would be to avoid it altogether… Meet Colin and Michelle.

“Follow the Manhattan-based Beavan family as they abandon their high consumption 5th Avenue lifestyle and try to live a year while making no net environmental impact.”

Available for instant viewing on Netflix.
